The delightful freshness that Tom Nicholas brings to every painting is the result of painstaking preparation - dozens of drawings and many small color sketches.  Nicholas has won 49 major awards and has had more than two dozen one-man shows.  His works hang in 14 museums. In this painting, of a sugarhouse where maple syrup is boiled down, Nicholas has captured the magnificence of the Vermont countryside in winter.
